To make sure you didn’t miss any epic adventures that might have flown under your radar last month, we’ve put together a wrap-up of the best new games of April 2024.

No Rest for the Wicked

Let’s start with the new action RPG No Rest for the Wicked from Moon Studios, the creators of Ori and the Blind Forest, and its sequel. It’s been available in Early Access since April 18th, and so far, you can only play the first act. This time around, the creators don’t rely on their award-winning formula of stunning 2D graphics, but bring us a 3D game with equally gorgeous visuals, an amazing soundtrack, and a mix of souls-like and hack-and-slash gameplay that feels very fresh and unique.

The game thrusts you into a world on the brink of oblivion. It’s the year 841, and the demise of the once mighty King Harol sets in motion a chain of events that will test your every skill. The Pestilence, a vile plague, corrupts everything it touches. You’re a Cerim, a sacred warrior with special abilities who must fight the plague and make impossible choices along the way.

Manor Lords

best new games of april 2024: manor lords

The medieval strategy game Manor Lords was probably the most anticipated release of April, and it didn’t disappoint. The Early Access title puts you in the shoes of a medieval lord as you forge your destiny. From humble beginnings, you’ll watch your village grow into a bustling metropolis, overseeing every aspect of its growth. But beware of challenges such as the changing seasons and unpredictable weather!

The game runs smoothly on PC, and the immersive world of late 14th-century Franconia feels vibrant and authentic. While the city-building mechanics are already a joy to play, we can’t wait to see what the developers have in store for the future! The game continues to grow with each update, offering new possibilities. If you’re looking for a game that will test your strategic skills as well as your imagination, Manor Lords is for you.

Kingsgrave

Kingsgrave may be a game that flew under your radar last month, but its dark fantasy realm is definitely worth exploring! Inspired by classic Zelda games, this action adventure offers between 3 and 5 hours of gameplay. You awake from a long slumber only to find your kingdom ravaged by a plague that has left it shattered and overrun by twisted creatures. It’s up to you to reclaim your realm and lead your people back to the light!

Combat is action-packed, with new abilities unlocked with each opponent you defeat. In addition to the battles, there are intricate puzzles scattered throughout the world. Aside from beating your enemies, you must rebuild your village, gather resources, and fortify your domain. With its blend of action, adventure, and puzzle-solving, this dark RPG offers an immersive experience you won’t want to miss!

Infection Free Zone

Another Early Access title released in April 2024 is Infection Free Zone, a city builder that seamlessly combines base building, strategy, management, and survival elements. The world as we know it has succumbed to “The Mad Virus” and civilization has crumbled, leaving behind empty cities devoid of life, light, and hope.

It’s time to rebuild humanity and create an infection-free zone for the survivors. Thanks to the game’s integration of real-world maps, you can choose any location in the world to begin building. As day turns to night, you must protect your settlement from the relentless onslaught of the infected. What sets the game apart is its minimalist yet atmospheric approach to the post-apocalyptic setting. The game receives regular updates and the roadmap looks very promising!

Incursion Red River

Shooter fans were also in for a treat in April with the Early Access release of the extraction shooter Incursion Red River. Set in the tumultuous landscape of war-torn Vietnam, you play as a contractor for private military organizations vying for control. Engage in relentless combat, uncover dark truths, and navigate the depths of geopolitical intrigue.

The game delivers a balanced, immersive FPS experience that doesn’t skimp on realism. Every piece of equipment and weapon attachment affects your tactics and play style, making every decision critical to your survival. And with a dynamic mission system that offers meaningful rewards, every mission feels like a step toward greater glory or a plunge into the depths of defeat.

The Magical Mixture Mill

The cozy management sim The Magical Mixture Mill has a completely different feel than all the other games we’ve mentioned so far. In the game, you take on the role of a former wandering hero turned aspiring alchemist. The eccentric witch Griselda will teach you everything you need to know about brewing potions so that you can take over her store Griselda’s Magical Mixtures. With the help of your goblin sidekick, you’ll build an alchemical empire full of humming production lines.

Besides automation, the heart of the game is traversing various biomes in search of elusive ingredients for your potions. Griselda’s challenges will also test your mettle, pushing you to your limits in the pursuit of perfection. The game can get a bit grindy, but we still had a fun time with it!

Eiyuden Chronicles: Hundred Heroes

Eiyuden Chronicles: Hundred Heroes is a modern take on classic JRPGs and a love letter to genre fans, delivering a nostalgic experience filled with adventure, strategy, and heart. Embark on an epic journey through a rich and vibrant game world where history is shaped by the clash of nations and the power of ancient artifacts. As the Galdean Empire seeks to expand its rule through the use of powerful rune lenses, you’ll face enemies both human and supernatural.

But it’s not just battles that await you in Eiyuden Chronicles. Dive into the intricacies of base management and watch your headquarters grow and evolve as you recruit allies and strengthen your forces. Immerse yourself in a variety of engaging mini-games, from intense duels to culinary showdowns, each offering its own unique challenges and rewards. With fluid combat, a captivating soundtrack, and charming city management mechanics, every aspect of the game feels meticulously crafted and thoughtfully designed.

SAND LAND

If you’re a fan of Akira Toriyama’s work, you must give the action RPG SAND LAND a try. In this sun-scorched world, every drop of water is as precious as gold. As the enigmatic Fiend Prince Beelzebub, it’s your destiny to lead a ragtag band of heroes through this unforgiving desert realm. With your trusty companions at your side, you’ll trek across vast dunes and treacherous oases in search of the fabled Legendary Spring, the only source of hope.

Customize tanks and vehicles with an array of parts, from fearsome weaponry to rugged suspension, and blaze a trail across the desert sands like a true legend. Whether you’re engaging in heart-pounding combat, racing across the desert in a souped-up rig, or uncovering secrets buried beneath the dunes, SAND LAND is an experience as vibrant and exhilarating as the anime and manga that inspired it.

Bellwright

Another Early Access title we got in April is the medieval survival crafting RPG Bellwright. Framed for a crime you didn’t commit, you lurk in the shadows, biding your time until fate throws you back into the heart of the kingdom that condemned you. As you journey through the harsh landscapes, you’ll forge alliances, build settlements from the ground up, and lead a rebellion against the oppressive Crown.

Each step brings you closer to the truth behind the conspiracy that has shattered your life, unlocking mysteries and secrets long buried. Explore, hunt, craft, command armies, and shape your destiny. With its blend of settlement management, strategic warfare, and immersive storytelling, Bellwright offers a unique gameplay experience. Fans of games like Medieval Dynasty should definitely give this one a try!

Echoes of the Plum Grove

Last but not least, we want to showcase another cozy life and farming sim Echoes of the Plum Grove. Start your new life in Honeywood, plant crops, tend to animals, and craft a legacy that spans generations. Befriend the townsfolk, explore the secrets of the island, and be aware of the dangers that hide behind dark corners.

The game impressed us with its charming art style, immersive music, and dynamic weather system. Whether you’re a veteran of the genre or a newcomer, the game has something for everyone.

Happy Gaming!
