1) Tips for the Ki bar
Let’s take a look at your Ki Bar first. It’s one of the most important elements in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero, and its strategic use can mean the difference between victory and defeat in the arenas. You can find it in the UI below your HP bar, displayed in five gray blocks that fill up with yellow.
There are two ways to generate Ki. The passive way is to simply not use any Ki. Over time, the bar will recharge itself. For example, you can use the size of the areas to keep your opponent at a distance and save up for new super attacks. You’ll use Ki for any type of attack that causes above average damage.
The second way to increase your Ki is to actively recharge it. If you’re playing with the controller (which is highly recommended for a game like Dragon Ball Sparking Zero), simply press the right shoulder button on the back.
Active charging is much faster than passive charging. However, you won’t be able to do anything during this time. So only use it when there’s a pause in the fight, for example after a well-placed combo.
2) How to win battles
Battles are the heart of the game. They are very different from those in Street Fighter or Tekken and have their own unique dynamics. Due to their complexity, they can quickly become overwhelming, especially for newcomers. The following three beginner tips will help you stay on top of things.
Timing is EVERYTHING
Think carefully about when to use your special attacks in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero. Your best chance for a direct hit is when your opponent can’t move. Take advantage of the window of opportunity after a successful combo, when your opponent is thrown off balance and falls to the ground.
Proper blocking and dodging
Good defense is essential to avoid going down early. Even on medium difficulty, the fighters in a Budokai Tenkaichi game show no mercy.
Use the upper shoulder trigger to block. Keep it pressed to defend against simple attacks such as punches or kicks. Pay close attention to the direction of your opponent’s attack and adjust your block up or down accordingly. Timing is also important. If you hold the button down too long, the block will break and your opponent will be free to strike.
The best way to parry attacks and deal some damage at the same time in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero is to dodge and then counterattack. To do this, press the block button just before you are hit. This will make your character dodge and give you a chance to teleport directly behind your opponent with a Short Dash. You can then land a few punches or kicks.
Using fusion in combat
Don’t directly select your character for Fusion. It’s not explained in the tutorial, but if you wait until you’re in the middle of a fight before merging, you’ll gain more health. This can save the day and turn a fight you thought you’d lost into a victory.
3) Character Tips
When you start a new game of Dragon Ball Sparking Zero, you only have 22 characters. However, you can unlock up to 182 characters in total. You’ll find out what you need to know in our Dragon Ball Sparking Zero guide now.
First things first: In single-player mode, you don’t have to spend much of the money you earn from battles to unlock new characters. You can unlock a number of them simply by completing the main story. There are also side quests and special missions that will give you more playable fighters.
If you still want to buy a character or two with Zeni, don’t focus too much on the ZP value. Just because someone has ten doesn’t mean you’re getting the best fighting machine for your team. With the right combo sequences and depending on your play style, a character with five HP can be a good choice for the endgame.
Speaking of play styles, we recommend focusing on a few fighters in your first run. Make their attacks and timing second nature to you. There’s a huge difference between characters. When you switch to another one, it feels completely different.
4) The Sparking! Mode
Let’s get to the point where the game gets its name: Sparking Mode. If you reach it in a match, you’ll be able to use your best attack. What’s more, in Sparking Mode you can perform combos of up to ten consecutive hits. These, combined with the ultimate attack, do more damage than anything else in the new Dragon Ball game.
To enter Sparking Mode, you must have your Energy charged to the maximum. You must also have at least one Skill Point. Use cover and Ki blasts to keep your opponents at a distance. This will give you the time you need to reach Sparking Mode. Not only will this increase the number of combo attacks you can perform, but it will also increase their damage and make it harder for your opponents to dodge.
5) Dragon Ball Sparking Zero tips: Use capsules
Finally, let’s take a look at capsules in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero. You can find them in the shop under Ability Items. You can use them to increase your Ki or combat power, for example. You can also use them to prevent fusions, unleash Wrath, and more.
If you find yourself stuck in the story and can’t complete a mission, simply giving your character a few capsules will make things a lot easier. If you follow our character advice, you should have enough Zeni to do this. To equip the capsules, click on the ‘Customize’ menu item in the shop and select the character you wish to upgrade.
