GTA 5 Weapons Guide: The Best Weapons

  • from PLITCH

After over a decade, the fascination with the open world of Los Santos remains unbroken. To make sure you have the firepower you need in Rockstar’s playground, our GTA 5 Weapons Guide presents the best weapons in the game. We’ll show you how to get them, what they cost, and their strengths and weaknesses.

1) The Best Machine Gun: Combat MG Mk 2

If you played GTA 5 in the vanilla version, you wouldn’t have heard of the Combat MG Mk 2. It was only added in the Gunrunning update on June 13, 2017. Since then, it has been a better replacement for the regular Combat MG.

GTA 5 Weapons Guide: The Best Machine Gun: Combat MG Mk 2

It can be made in your armory at the Mobile Operations Center in GTA 5. It costs 119,000 dollars. In return, you get a weapon with a considerable magazine size and a very good rate of fire. Although the damage per bullet isn’t the greatest, the sheer mass of bullets you can fire in a short period of time easily makes up for it.

The MK 2’s range and accuracy are average, so you can use it over long distances and in street shootouts without any problems. The machine gun can be upgraded with 19 modifications, from a larger magazine to a heavy barrel to a flat muzzle brake.

2) The Best Assault Rifles

In the assault rifle category, we’d like to introduce you to three recommended rifles, each of which is strong in its own way. Which one is best for you depends entirely on your personal play style in GTA 5.

Special Carbine Mk 2

The Special Carbine Mk 2 also comes from the 2017 Gunrunning update. It’s an improvement on the conventional Special Carbine that initially came into play with the 2014 Business update. Basically, the Mk 2 is similar to the G36K assault rifle, but it has a shorter barrel and an L-shaped buttstock. Thanks to its high rate of fire and impressive damage (0.5 more than its predecessor), the MK 2 is the assault rifle that allows you to do the most damage per second.

To make the upgraded Special Carbine in GTA 5, you must craft it from the conventional one in your armory. It costs $135,000. The range of modifications is vast. The magazine can be loaded with tracer or incendiary rounds and armor-piercing or full metal jacket bullets. In addition, there is a wide range of muzzle brakes, scopes, and cosmetic modifications.

Despite its high rate of fire and increased damage, the MK2 is pretty accurate. Range and magazine capacity are average. Other weapons are better suited for long-range combat. However, for short- and medium-range use, the Special Carbine Mk2 is definitely a good choice.

Heavy Rifle

The Heavy Rifle has a checkered history. It was supposed to be in the game in version 1.0 for the original release of GTA 5. However, during development, Rockstar decided to remove it. It wasn’t until December 2021 that it was patched into the game as part of the The Contract update. It’s funny that you can see the rendering of the original design at the shooting range in Ammu-Nation.

Speaking of Ammu-Nation, you can buy the Heavy Rifle for $450,000, regardless of your rank. A Celebrity Solution Agency will give you a five percent discount on the purchase price. Unfortunately, the accuracy of the assault rifle is relatively poor at long range. This is due to the heavy recoil. On the other hand, the Heavy Rifle dominates at short and medium range, dealing tremendous damage with a solid rate of fire.

Carbine Rifle MK II

Let’s take a look at the Carbine MK II without the special on the front. The Carbine Rifle MK II does about six percent less damage per shot than the Special Carbine MK II, but its accuracy is much higher. It also performs better at longer ranges than the two assault rifles introduced so far. This is the weapon for you if you want to take out a few enemies from a distance in GTA 5.

The magazine can be loaded with the same types of bullets as the Special Carbine, and the other customization options are also very extensive. Production is done by modifying the standard carbine rifle in your armory. The cost is 107,500 dollars. You can simply buy the standard Carbine Assault Rifle in an Ammu-Nation.

3) The Best Heavy Weapons in GTA 5

Do you want to know which weapons can do the most damage in the game and make cars or planes go up in flames in no time? Then, the heavy weapons are for you.

Minigun

The Minigun has probably the highest rate of fire in GTA V, firing up to 9,999 rounds at a time. Its range of over 500 meters makes it a reliable weapon at long range, allowing you to mow down entire groups of enemies. Its extremely low dispersion makes it a precise and accurate cannon. Another advantage is that you don’t have to reload. All bullets can be fired in one go.

To get your hands on the minigun in GTA Online, you can buy it from Ammu Nation at rank 120. Alternatively, you can steal it from a Juggernaut or pick it up in the Survival Battle in one of the late waves. If you want it in the main game, you can buy it in any Ammu Nation for $15,000 after “The Paleto Score” mission. Trevor will also automatically get it as part of the story in that mission. Alternatively, you can steal it from Fort Zancudo in Blaine County.

The minigun’s biggest drawback is its limited mobility. While equipped, you can’t jump, run, climb, or take cover. And while 9,999 shots may sound like a lot, the minigun’s phenomenal rate of fire means that they are used up very quickly.

Rocket Launcher

Now that we’ve covered the weapon with the highest rate of fire let’s talk about the weapon with the highest damage potential in GTA 5. The Rocket Launcher is unsurpassed in this discipline and has the most powerful penetration in the entire game. If you want to get your hands on one in the main game, you can buy it from Ammu-Nation for $6,500.

You can also find it in a few locations: on the roof of the NOOSE building, in the mountain village of the Altruist Cult, and on the La Puerta freeway bridge in the western part near the airport.

In GTA Online, you can only buy the bazooka from an Ammu-Nation after you reach rank 100 for $36,500. Its rate of fire and accuracy are very low, so be careful when and where you fire it. On the other hand, it has an excellent range and destroys everything it hits.

4) The Best Sniper Rifle: Heavy Sniper Rifle Mk 2

Do you want to snipe your enemies without them knowing you’re there, let alone where you are? Then, this is the section of our GTA 5 weapons guide that should interest you the most. The Mk 2 Heavy Sniper Rifle is the best of all the high-powered weapons in the game.

As you can tell by its name, it was introduced with the GTA 5 Gunrunning update. You can craft it in your mobile operations center at the armory for $165,375. The Mk 2 has the longest range in the game, and its damage is far greater than most other weapons.

The magazine capacity is relatively low, so make sure you get every shot off. However, this shouldn’t be a problem, given the sniper rifle’s tremendous accuracy. You can upgrade the weapon with a zoom scope, a thermal sight, and a few other upgrades.

5) The best handgun: AP Pistol

The AP Pistol is undoubtedly the best revolver in GTA 5. This is partly due to its amazingly high rate of fire, which allows you to slaughter a whole group of enemies in a single drive-by. The weapon also impresses with its low recoil and high accuracy. The only drawback is that the magazine isn’t huge, so you’ll be forced to reload quickly, given the rate of fire.

In single-player, you can get the weapon as part of the Three’s Company mission. You can also buy the AP Pistol from Ammu-Nation at any time for $1,000. In online mode, it will cost you $4,300. You can buy it from rank 33. The standard 18-round magazine can be upgraded to a 36-round magazine. You can access the large magazine at rank 34. At rank 36, you can even get a silencer for the AP, and at rank 35, you can get a flashlight for dark missions.

6) The best shotguns

Let’s examine the game’s shotguns. If you want high penetration and wide dispersion at close range, the following two models are your weapons of choice.

Assault Shotgun

The Assault Shotgun is based on the real-life UTAS UTS-15, a 12-gauge pump-action shotgun used by the Turkish military. In GTA 5, it has a high rate of fire and a respectable damage potential of 77 percent. Its eight-round magazine can be upgraded to 32 rounds.

As is typical for shotguns, range and accuracy aren’t very good. However, you can take advantage of the scatter when you don’t have time to aim or are in close combat. In Story mode, you can get the weapon after the Blitz Play mission in Ammu-Nation for $1,500. You can also pick it up in the game world. Go to the mountain village in Blaine County and look at the church portal.

In GTA Online, the shotgun costs $10,000 from Ammu-Nation. You need to be at rank 37. It can also be found in various crates when attacking gangs or collected by picking up your opponents’ weapons in a fight for survival.

Pump Action Shotgun MK II

The MK II Pump Action Shotgun was introduced in The Doomsday Heist update. You can craft it from the standard version of the weapon in your Mobile Operations Center. It costs $82,500. Interestingly, the manufacturer of the MK II is indicated by the fire (the Austrian manufacturer in GTA 5). On the other hand, the standard pump-action shotgun is manufactured by Shrewsbury.

The MK II has a 3x higher rate of fire than its predecessor and slightly increased damage. It can be equipped with numerous upgrades, such as a scope or a muzzle brake.

7) Best Thrown Weapons & Explosives

Let’s take a look at the throwables in GTA 5. These are great for setting traps for your enemies or blowing up vehicles.

Sticky Bomb

The Sticky Bomb is based on the C4 explosive and can be placed on vehicles or objects to detonate them from a distance. You can have 20 of them in the world at any one time. You can purchase the weapon from Ammu-Nation in the main game for $400. If you’re playing GTA Online, it costs $600 but is available at rank 19.

Its damage potential is enormous at 95 percent. This means that cars or airplanes can be put out of action very quickly. The only downside is the relatively short range if you don’t place it but throw it.

Instead of buying it, you can also find the Sticky Bomb in various places and situations: in the main game on the Dutch-London Street Bridge, in an old boat west of Fort Zancudo, or in an unfinished house on San Andreas Avenue. You can also get it in the Friends Reunited, Blitz Play, and Derailed missions.

Proximity Mine

The Proximity Mine is the perfect trap for unsuspecting enemies in GTA 5. You can attach them to vehicles or walls, and as soon as your opponent gets close to them, they go off, dealing a fair amount of damage with a potential of 90 percent. But be careful. Friendly fire is also possible. If you accidentally step on it, it’s game over for you.

The cost is $1,000 in the main game and online. The Proximity Mine can be purchased in any Ammu-Nation, regardless of rank. Your inventory can hold up to five of them.

8) Best Melee Weapon: Stone Hatchet

The last weapon we’re going to look at is something for melee combat in GTA 5. The Stone Hatchet has been available since the 2018 After Hours update. To Rockstar fans, it should look familiar. The exact same model is available in Red Dead Redemption 2.

The battle axe is modeled after a tomahawk and can’t be purchased. The only way to get it is through bounty missions. Its main advantage is the high damage it deals per swing. It’s far superior to the knife, baseball bat, hammer, or nightstick.

The Stone Hatchet is relatively slow to use, but it will one-shot your enemies in GTA 5, making you virtually unbeatable in melee combat.
