PRAGMATA Tips and Tricks for a Good Start

PRAGMATA throws shooting, hacking, and fast-paced movement at you all at once, making it easy to miss what really matters early on. Our PRAGMATA tips and tricks will help you upgrade smarter, fight cleaner, and get more out of every sector from the start.

Upgrade the Right Firmware

The Firmware Updater is one of the most important systems in PRAGMATA. It improves Hugh’s suit, your weapon, and Diana’s hacking. One of the most common mistakes is spending everything on a single path. That may work early on, but the game becomes much less forgiving as stronger enemies appear.

A smarter approach is to build a balanced foundation first. Because you can’t reset these core upgrades later, your early choices matter more than they appear.

In the beginning, focus on:

  • Suit for survivability
  • Primary Unit for reliable damage
  • Hacking so Diana can keep up in combat

If one of these falls too far behind, fights become much harder than they need to be. That’s why it helps to keep all three fairly balanced during the first sectors, instead of going all in on only offense or only defense.

At the same time, it’s perfectly fine to give a slight edge to damage if that suits your playstyle. Your weapon and Diana’s hacking usually have the most immediate impact in combat, especially when enemies become more aggressive.

Good early priorities include:

  • Keeping all three firmware categories close together
  • Putting a bit of extra value into weapon or hacking upgrades
  • Avoiding heavy specialization too soon

Another thing you shouldn’t ignore in PRAGMATA is mobility. Hugh’s suit is powerful, but it’s not built for graceful movement. Your thrusters do most of the heavy lifting when it comes to dodging attacks and reaching distant platforms.

Because of that, it’s worth investing in:

  • Thruster upgrades for better evasion
  • Movement options that help you survive longer fights
  • Tools that keep you flexible during exploration and combat

Armor upgrades are still useful, of course. More health always helps. But extra durability alone won’t save you if your damage is too low or your hacking falls behind. PRAGMATA works best when your whole kit grows together.

Learn How Weapon Types Work

At the start of PRAGMATA, your Grip Gun is the one weapon you can always count on. It has infinite ammo, making it your permanent fallback. Other weapons hit harder, but they have limited ammo and disappear once they are empty.

Once you return to the Shelter, you can use the Unit Printer to spend Lunafilament and add found weapons to your starting loadout. This makes them more reliable between missions, but it does not make them permanent tools. If their ammo runs out, they are still gone.

As you progress, you’ll unlock four weapon categories:

  • Main gun
  • Attack
  • Defense
  • Tactical

Each type has its own purpose, so combat works best when you keep switching instead of relying on just one weapon the whole time.

You should also be careful with upgrades in PRAGMATA. Your Grip Gun is worth upgrading because those upgrades carry over later when you unlock a better main weapon. However, more advanced weapon upgrades cost not only Lunafilament but also Pure Lunum, which is much rarer.

Keep these points in mind:

  • Upgrade your pistol confidently
  • Don’t burn rare materials on every weapon you find
  • Experiment with different weapon types
  • Be cautious with charge weapons early on, since many enemies won’t give you enough time to use them properly

Make Hacking Work for You

In PRAGMATA, hacking isn’t just support, but one of your strongest tools. If you ignore it, you make fights much harder than they need to be.

A big part of this system is Hacking Nodes. These yellow pickups appear on your hacking grid during combat. If you route through them before completing a hack, they trigger additional effects. The more nodes of the same type you use, the stronger the effect becomes.

Hacking can help you:

  • Lower defenses before opening fire
  • Increase damage on hacked enemies
  • Expose multiple targets at once
  • Freeze or cripple dangerous foes
  • Confuse enemies so they attack each other

This is especially useful in chaotic encounters. If a group of robots is closing in on you, a well-timed hack can instantly relieve pressure and give you room to recover.

As you progress in PRAGMATA, you’ll also unlock Hacking Modes and Mods. These let you tailor Diana’s abilities to your playstyle, whether you want more damage, better control, or greater survivability.

A few smart habits go a long way:

  • Use your stronger nodes on bigger enemies or groups
  • Don’t waste your best effects on weak fodder
  • Buy the first upgrade of new nodes so they become part of your loadout
  • Experiment with different combinations instead of relying on only one trick

One of the best early upgrades is Auto Hacking. It helps a lot in hectic fights and lets you focus more on moving and shooting. Just remember that it uses part of Diana’s gauge, so don’t waste it carelessly.

Master the Combat Flow

Combat in PRAGMATA isn’t about spraying bullets and hoping for the best. To win consistently, you need to fight with precision, use Diana’s hacking, and know when to move. Hugh’s weapons are strong, but they reach their full potential only when you combine them with hacking and target the right spots.

One of the most important habits is learning an enemy’s weak points. If you hit them, they light up orange, meaning you’re dealing much more damage. These spots are often on the head, arms, back, or on visible weapon parts like mounted cannons.

Always watch for:

  • Orange glowing weak spots
  • Cannons or exposed armor elements
  • Openings after enemy attack patterns
  • Moments when enemies are vulnerable after a hack

Hacking in PRAGMATA is just as important as aiming. A good opening is to hack first, then deal damage while the enemy is exposed. If you use tools like the Glue Gun, you can reduce the number of hacking nodes and speed up the process, which is especially useful against tougher enemies.

Movement matters just as much. In many fights, the correct dodge isn’t a side dash but a jump. Diana will often warn you when that’s the case. Some attacks also chain into follow-ups, so one evasive move is not always enough.

Keep these movement tips in mind:

  • Jump against certain incoming attacks instead of always dashing sideways
  • Be ready to jump, hover, then dash
  • Stop aiming briefly when you need to jump
  • Re-aim in the air to auto-hover
  • Never stay in one place for too long

You also need to manage your weapons carefully in PRAGMATA. Ammo for stronger guns is limited, so don’t waste your best shots on poor angles or rushed attacks.

A strong combat rhythm looks like this:

  1. Hack the enemy
  2. Target the weak point
  3. Use your main gun first
  4. Swap to a stronger weapon for burst damage
  5. Keep moving so you don’t get surrounded

Once you get into that rhythm, fights become much more controlled and less chaotic.

Don’t Ignore Training Simulations

The Training Simulations in PRAGMATA are much more than optional side content. They are among the best ways to practice key mechanics, especially hacking, while earning valuable rewards.

If you still feel shaky during hacks or high-pressure fights, the simulations are the ideal place to improve. You can learn the systems in a more controlled setting and still come away with resources that support your real progress.

Why they’re worth doing:

  • Practice hacking without the pressure of a full mission
  • Earn Upgrade Components, Pure Lunum, and Cabin Coins
  • Unlock extra rewards through Cabin’s Stamp Club
  • Work toward trophies and completion goals

Cabin Coins are especially useful in PRAGMATA because they let you unlock slots on the Stamp Board, which can reward you with resources, cosmetics, and even new weapons or hacking nodes. That makes Training Simulations a great way to strengthen your loadout between sectors.

Try to clear them as soon as they become available, and keep an eye out for additional simulations as you explore. They help you get better at the game and make progression smoother.

Go Back to Earlier Areas

PRAGMATA gives you plenty of reasons to revisit older sectors. On your first visit, you simply can’t reach everything. Some paths are blocked, some rooms remain sealed, and certain collectibles become available only after you unlock new abilities later in the game.

That’s why revisiting earlier areas, especially Sector 01, is always worth it. Once you clear blocked paths and reach previously inaccessible rooms, you’ll find extra resources, collectibles, and useful rewards waiting for you.

When you backtrack, look out for:

  • Hidden items and resources
  • Missing collectibles
  • REM gifts
  • Cabin Coins for Diana
  • Modules and Read Earth Memory

PRAGMATA also makes cleanup easy. You can revisit every sector from the Shelter via the tram, and the map shows how much you have already collected in each block or sector. If you missed something earlier, you don’t need to stress. You can always come back later.

Another nice bonus is that Hugh and Diana often have new conversations in familiar places, which adds more personality to the world and gives you extra character moments you might otherwise miss.
