Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 Tips and Tricks

The new game in the Warhammer 40K universe is set in the age of the Dark Imperium and sends the Tyranids into battle as the new main antagonists. Our Space Marine 2 Tips and Tricks show you everything you need to know to master the eight-to-twelve-hour campaign, from the combat system to class selection.

1) Get to know your weapons

Your arsenal in Space Marine 2 is very diverse, with both ranged and melee weapons. What’s more, each one plays differently. The most important beginner’s tip we want to give you right off the bat concerns melee combos. Pure button mashing will get you through the first few missions but not the entire campaign, regardless of difficulty.

Make sure you learn the button combinations for the thunder hammer and the power sword. These two are the best melee weapons in the game and will allow you to take down many smaller enemies quickly. The combos for each are easily found in the pause menu. Make sure you take the time.

Experiment with your firearms as well. Choose a primary weapon to take down or weaken bosses, ranged fighters, and special enemies, then switch to the secondary weapon. Use it to finish what you started and keep the combat dynamic.

2) Choose the right weapon for the situation

Let’s take a closer look at the weapons in Space Marine 2. Since each has different characteristics, they are suitable for different situations. For melee combat, you can use your hammer or sword. Especially if you face large hordes of enemies, every bullet you fire at small beasts with a rifle would be a waste of ammunition.

We recommend the Stalker Bolt Rifle as your primary weapon for neutralizing ranged enemies. It has a good range and a large magazine. Its damage potential is quite high, and it is very accurate.

If you need even more firepower, switch to the Bolt Sniper Rifle. You can dominate the battlefield with it, especially in boss fights, but also in defensive missions. The only downside is that the magazine is relatively small, so making every shot count is best.

Las Fusil is recommended for close combat. It deals high damage and can destroy entire hordes in a short time. The only problem is the relatively long reload animation.

3) Parry or dodge?

For most of your enemies, the game will give you a visual cue just before they attack. Whether you parry or just dodge depends on the color. If a red icon appears, you roll with the spacebar to dodge the attack. If a blue symbol appears, you have the chance to counterattack.

To counterattack, press C to stagger your enemy. You may even be able to kill a weakened unit with a counterattack. You can fire a critical damage shot if you see a red crosshair over your enemy after your parry. Simply press the left mouse button.

4) Healing tips

There are two ways to heal in Space Marine 2. The easiest way is to use the injections. However, you can only carry two Medicae Stims at a time. Also, you can only find them in certain places in the game, so don’t waste them, but use them wisely.

The second way to heal is to regain lost health by attacking. When you take a hit, part of your HP bar will turn white. It will disappear entirely after a few seconds. During this time, if you attack your opponents and hit them, you will regain some of your health immediately.

5) Always use the finisher

The next point in our Warhammer 40K Space Marine 2 Tips and Tricks will restore your armor energy and make you invulnerable for a moment. If one of your opponents is paralyzed, they will begin to glow red. During this phase, you can use a melee finisher. During the execution animation, you’ll receive invincibility frames so that no projectile or blow can harm you.

Even if you’re out of range of the finisher, you can still trigger it. In this case, your character will run towards the victim, and you will receive the i-frames directly.

6) Space Marine 2 tips: Beware of corruption

Both Chaos Warriors and Tyranids can cause corruption in Space Marine 2. Depending on the type, your character will be affected differently. With chaos corruption, imaginary enemies will appear to distract you and lead you down the wrong path.

However, you can tell whether they are imaginary or real enemies by their behavior. Tyranid corruption turns your screen green and obstructs your view.

7) How to survive the hordes

Running away isn’t an option in Space Marine 2, and an offensive play style is favored by the healing mechanic alone. If a horde is approaching you, it’s best to stand your ground and try to take out the ranged and special enemies first.

Once the horde reaches you, hit them with your melee weapon and keep moving. Look for the red and blue icons to dodge, parry, and perform combos. This will help you decimate the enemies bit by bit.

8) Choose the right class

You can choose from six different classes during operations (the repeatable missions in the game). Each gives you a unique ultimate ability. Which class is suitable for you depends on your preferred play style. The following list will provide you with a good idea of their characteristics:

  • Tactical: An all-rounder who is good at both ranged and melee combat.
  • Assault: Can use special melee weapons but is not good at ranged attacks.
  • Vanguard: Can catapult themself towards the enemy with a grappling hook launcher and has melee combat advantages.
  • Bulwark: Has no primary weapon, only a secondary weapon, but a shield instead.
  • Sniper: Can use special sniper rifles (best class for accurate ranged combat).
  • Heavy: Focuses on heavy weapons with long-range (good choice for brutal ranged combat).

9) Collect guardian relics and gene-seeds

There are some rare but handy items you can collect in Space Marine 2. Guardian Relics allow you to resurrect yourself if you’re killed in battle without immediately failing the mission. You can find these relics both in the normal campaign and during operations.

Gene-seeds, on the other hand, are only available during operations. They give you and your squad an XP bonus. Their locations are random, but they are usually found in hidden areas of the map. Collect as many as you can to level up your character.

10) Keep an eye out for green crates

Mistaking the Imperium’s green crates for part of the scenery is easy. However, they can be destroyed with both your melee and ranged weapons. You’ll mostly find fresh ammo in them. From time to time, they also contain healing injections or grenades. Don’t miss them.

Sometimes in Space Marine 2, you’ll also find Resurrection Guardian Relics near the crates. Keeping your eyes peeled for the green containers can be doubly rewarding.
