Gothic 1 Remake Lockpicking Made Easy

  • from PLITCH
  • 11.06.2026

Opening chests in Gothic 1 Remake can be surprisingly tricky, especially when a single wrong move snaps your last pick. In this Gothic 1 Remake lockpicking guide, we explain how the minigame works, how to solve tougher locks, and how a Gothic 1 Remake lockpicking mod from PLITCH can make the system much less frustrating.

Lockpicking Guide

Lockpicking in Gothic 1 Remake is a small logic puzzle where every move matters. If you rush it, your lockpicks will break before you even understand what went wrong.

Gothic 1 Remake Lockpicking: A man with a blond braid kneels in a dark wooden attic picking a lock

When you pick a lock, you’ll see several sliding plates. Each plate has seven holes, and your goal is to move every pin into the fourth slot. You know a pin is in the correct position when it pops up instead of down.

The catch is that the plates are often connected. Moving one plate can also move another. That means a single careless move can ruin the whole setup or snap your lockpick.

Basic Lockpicking Rules

  • Each plate has seven positions
  • The fourth position is the goal
  • Pins must be centered to open the lock
  • Some plates move other plates with them
  • Moving a pin past the outer holes can break your pick

Train Lockpicking Early

Once Diego tells you about the trainers at the Old Camp, look for Fingers near the arena. He can train your lockpicking and pickpocketing skills.

Without training, harder locks are much more painful, especially those with five or more plates. Training gives you more room for mistakes and makes the mechanism less complex.

  • Lockpicking Trained costs 10 LP and 100 Ore. You can make up to four mistakes before breaking a pick.
  • Lockpicking Master costs 20 LP and 200 Ore. You can make up to six mistakes, and the lock becomes easier to manage.

Analyze the Lock First

Most lockpicks break because players guess. Don’t just move plates around and hope for the best. Take a moment to study the mechanism first.

A good method is:

  1. Check the starting position of every pin.
  2. Move one plate left once and watch what changes.
  3. Move the same plate right once and compare it.
  4. Repeat this with every plate.
  5. Remember which plates are linked before solving the lock.

Solve in the Right Order

Don’t center one tooth perfectly and then move on. Later adjustments can shift it again. Instead, work in stages.

Start with the independent teeth. If a plate moves on its own, bring it close to the fourth slot first. Then deal with small linked groups. Move them roughly into place before fine-tuning. Save the heavily connected teeth for last, because they are the most likely to mess up the rest of the lock.

This order gives you more control and reduces the chance of accidentally breaking your pick.

Use a Logic Solver for Hard Locks

Some locks are just nasty. Because the system follows clear rules, you can solve difficult locks like a logic puzzle.

Write down:

  • How many plates there are
  • The starting position of each pin
  • Which plates move when another plate moves right
  • That left moves are the opposite of right moves

With that information, you can calculate a move sequence or ask a mathematically gifted friend for help. The answer may look like P2L, P3R, P1R, etc.

If the solution doesn’t work, try reversing left and right. The movement of plates and pins can be confusing.

The Easier Way: Our Gothic 1 Remake Lockpicking Mod

Lockpicking in Gothic 1 Remake can be satisfying once you understand the puzzle, but it can also burn through your lockpicks quickly. One wrong move, one ignored chain reaction, or one pin pushed too far, and your pick is gone.

That is where the Indestructible Lockpick cheat from PLITCH comes in. Instead of losing a pick every time the mechanism punishes you, you can experiment freely and actually learn how the lock works.

This is especially useful when you want to:

  • Test how each plate affects the others
  • Practice difficult locks without wasting resources
  • Figure out linked teeth at your own pace
  • Avoid losing picks because of one tiny mistake
  • Open tougher chests without constant reloads

The cheat doesn’t remove the logic behind the minigame. You still need to move the plates, watch the connections, and place every pin in the fourth slot. But it takes away the most frustrating part: breaking your lockpick before you can understand the mechanism.

So if you want the loot without turning every chest into a reload marathon, the Indestructible Lockpick cheat is the easiest way to make lockpicking less punishing and much more fun.
