7 Important Mafia: The Old Country Tips and Tricks

With our Mafia: The Old Country tips and tricks, we want to make you an offer you can’t refuse. We’ll show you how a real gangster manages his resources and weapons and how you can neutralize your opponents without being noticed. With our help, you’ll make Enzo Favara a respected member of the Torrisi family.

1) Use the right knife

Knife fighting plays an important role in early 20th-century Sicily. Each blade has its own benefits. A Scannaturi can be thrown, a Stiletto lasts a long time and doesn’t break easily, and with a Rasolu, you can send an opponent to the ground with just one strike.

Many knives in Mafia: The Old Country also have unique perks. Some restore your health after an ambush, while others boost your melee damage. It’s best to always pick the knife that fits the mission you’re currently on.

2) Activate the Instinct feature

There is an easy way to analyze and predict your opponents’ movements and locations in Mafia: The Old Country. By pressing the D-pad up, you activate Instinct mode. This highlights the silhouettes of visible enemies. To register all of them, you sometimes need to look around a bit or get closer.

However, the game is very linear in its structure. Moving between cover points and reaching new waypoints activates scripted sequences. When you hit the trigger points, enemies nearby will often move away, giving you a chance to advance unnoticed.

3) Combat tips

You can’t heal yourself during knife fights in Mafia: The Old Country. To preserve your health, play defensively. Parry or dodge and take advantage of weaknesses or gaps in your opponent’s defense. Attacks that can’t be countered are signaled with an audible and visual cue. So, pay close attention to light signals and sounds when your opponent is about to strike.

If you’re using a gun instead of a knife, aim for headshots. These will neutralize threats with just one shot. To improve your accuracy, wait until the circle closes before aiming. Be patient and take your time, rather than firing from the hip.

Use your surroundings in Mafia: The Old Country to gain an advantage in combat. Destroy enemies’ cover to get a clear shot or shoot at lamps to set them on fire. Remember, however, that Enzo can’t take many hits. So, try to give your enemies as little chance as possible to target you.

4) Equip charms

To compensate for your character’s low health, we want to take a closer look at the charms in the game in our Mafia: The Old Country tips and tricks. You can find them at holy statues. Once you’ve added them to your inventory, you can select them in the menu under the Talisman tab.

There are two kinds of amulets: medallions and beads. Initially, you have four bead slots available. To increase the number, you can purchase extra slots from Pasquale. For medallions, you can only equip one at a time.

The effects of the items vary greatly and are extremely useful. From temporary invulnerability when you have only a few HP left, to the chance to dodge bullets, to instant kills in close combat, everything is included.

5) Stealth tips

Throughout the story in Mafia: The Old Country, you’re often required to sneak somewhere unnoticed. To avoid drawing attention from enemies during infiltration, you need to proceed carefully. Use the instinct feature and stay alert to your surroundings at all times.

If you have to kill someone to move forward, remember to hide their body. If you just leave it there, the guards will sound the alarm once they see their dead comrade. Use either takedowns or throw Scannaturi knives to eliminate your enemies. These are silent and can be picked up again after use.

To distract enemies or lure them away, throw bottles or coins. Your enemies will follow the source of the noise, letting you sneak past their original position unnoticed. If two enemies are talking, just wait until their conversation ends. Typically, one of them will leave, leaving you with just one enemy instead of two.

6) Keep an eye on your resources

Whether it’s bandages, bullets, bombs, or whetstones, all your resources are limited. This is partly because your inventory only allows you to carry a certain number of each item. It’s also because many items in the world of Mafia: The Old Country are scarce.

If you’re wounded and find new bandages, you should heal yourself first and then pick up the items. This will prevent you from exceeding the maximum. Despite the scarcity, don’t hesitate to use whetstones to sharpen your weapons and bombs to scare enemies.
