In Mewgenics, every class plays completely differently, from frontline Tanks to sneaky Thieves and spell-slinging Mages. Unlocking them all takes time and smart progression. In this Mewgenics Classes Guide, you’ll learn how to unlock every class and use them effectively in your runs.
Table of Contents
Collarless
Every cat in Mewgenics starts as Collarless. This is the base class, with no stat bonuses or penalties. What you see is what you get.

The downside is specialization. Collarless cats can only learn Collarless abilities, making them the least defined class in the game. Although their ability pool includes offense, support, and utility, they struggle to fully commit to a specific role.
Basic Actions
Collarless cats can start with one of three attacks:
- Melee Strike for close combat
- Straight Shot that travels in a line and stops at obstacles
- Short Lobbed Shot that arcs over obstacles
Leveling
Other classes can also learn Collarless skills. About one in four level-up choices will be a Collarless ability. Collarless cats are versatile starters, but if you want stronger builds, you’ll eventually want a proper class.
Fighter
If you just want to run in and smash everything, the Fighter in Mewgenics is your class. No tricks. No subtle plays. Just raw damage.

Fighters start with:
- +2 Strength
- +1 Speed
- -1 Intelligence
When leveling up, they can gain:
- Strength
- Constitution
- Speed
They are built to reach the frontline quickly and hit hard. High Speed gets you into position, and high Strength makes every punch hurt. Most of their active abilities focus on heavy single-target damage or strong multi-target attacks, while their passives further boost combat power.
The downside is lower Intelligence. This means less mana regeneration at the end of each turn, so you can’t spam expensive abilities forever. Use big skills wisely. Interestingly, you can lean into low Intelligence with abilities like 1D Chess or Dumb Muscle, which scale with lower Intelligence.
Basic Action
- Melee Attack: Deals damage to an adjacent enemy equal to your Strength
Archetypes
- Hyper Offense: Maximum burst damage
- Got to be Tuff: Lowering Intelligence even further for scaling bonuses
Hunter
The Hunter in Mewgenics is your long-range damage dealer. If you prefer staying safe while picking enemies apart from afar, this class fits perfectly.

Hunters start with:
- +3 Dexterity
- +2 Luck
- -1 Constitution
- -2 Speed
On level up, they can gain:
- Dexterity
- Intelligence
- Luck
Their high Dexterity underpins most of their abilities, allowing them to shoot past obstacles and even allies. You can hide behind cover and still deal serious damage. However, positioning is critical. Hunters can’t attack enemies at close range by default, and their low Constitution makes them fragile. Their reduced speed also limits repositioning, so every move must be carefully planned.
Basic Action
- Lobbed Shot: Deals damage based on Dexterity, has long range, ignores obstacles, but can’t hit enemies that are too close
Tank
The Tank in Mewgenics is your damage sponge. If something needs to stand in the way and survive, this is the class you pick.

Tanks start with:
- +4 Constitution
- -1 Dexterity
- -1 Intelligence
They are gold-colored and built to withstand punishment. Use their massive Constitution to draw aggro and protect fragile teammates. Lower Intelligence means less mana regeneration, so either use cheap abilities often or save up for one big play.
Basic Action
- Push Attack: Dash forward one space, then melee attack with Knockback
Mage
The Mage in Mewgenics is your spell-slinging powerhouse. Blue in color and ready to blast, this starting class specializes in elemental damage and mana-fueled abilities.

Mages begin with:
- +2 Intelligence
- +2 Charisma
- -1 Strength
- -1 Constitution
High mana stats make them devastating over time, but low Constitution turns them into a classic glass cannon.
Basic Action
- Magic Dart: Fires a charged projectile in line of sight, dealing both magical and physical damage
Cleric
The Cleric in Mewgenics is your team’s lifesaver. If you enjoy keeping your squad alive while still dealing damage, this class is perfect for you.

How to Unlock the Cleric
To unlock it, you need to:
- Beat The Alley for the first time
- Talk to Butch
- Receive the Cleric as a reward
Clerics appear in white and have the following stat changes:
- +2 Charisma
- +2 Constitution
- -1 Speed
- -1 Dexterity
They are tougher than they look, but their lower Speed makes positioning crucial.
Abilities
Both basic attacks have a dual effect:
- Melee Attack Heal damages enemies and heals allies
- Ranged Attack Heal damages enemies and heals allies
This means you can always heal at least one ally per turn.
Tips for Playing Cleric
- Keep them in the middle of your team
- Rotate injured cats into healing range
- Protect them carefully since they can’t heal themselves
- Give them priority when it comes to healing items
Thief
The Thief in Mewgenics is all about speed, positioning, and sneaky plays. You unlock this yellow class by:
- Beating The Sewers
- Talking to Butch
- Receiving the Thief collar

Stat changes:
- +4 Speed
- +1 Luck
- -1 Strength
- -1 Constitution
Thieves are fragile, but their insane Speed lets you slip past enemies, steal aggro, and apply backline pressure. Early on, they may feel weak because many abilities focus on economy or utility. However, strong synergies can turn them into monsters later, letting you move and attack multiple times in one turn.
Basic Action
- Nail Throw: Attack an enemy in a straight line
Necromancer
The Necromancer in Mewgenics is perfect if you enjoy life-drain and corpse-based strategies. You unlock this black-colored class by:
- Completing The Boneyard
- Talking to Butch

Stat changes:
- +2 Constitution
- +1 Charisma
- -2 Strength
Their solid Constitution lets them stand close to enemies and protect squishier teammates. Even though their Strength is lower, they shine through status effects.
Basic Action
- Leech Shot: Apply +1 Leech to a unit within three tiles
Leech may feel weak in short fights, but in long boss battles it becomes extremely powerful. Necromancers scale best when fights drag on and enemies refuse to die.
Tinkerer
The Tinkerer in Mewgenics is your gadget genius. Unlock this cyan class by beating The Bunker and then talking to Butch.

Stat changes:
- +4 Intelligence
- -1 Luck
- -1 Charisma
Tinkerers excel at crafting temporary weapons and using creative tools to control the battlefield through sheer brainpower.
Butcher
The Butcher in Mewgenics is all about raw power and close-range brutality. You unlock this crimson-colored class by:
- Beating The Core
- Talking to Butch

Stat changes:
- +3 Constitution
- +2 Strength
- -2 Speed
Think of the Butcher as half Fighter, half Tank. They deal heavy melee damage while remaining durable on the frontline. Their signature hook pulls enemies closer, helping offset their low Speed and forcing fights on their terms.
Tips for Playing Butcher
- Use them as a frontline bruiser who both deals and takes damage
- Increase Speed whenever possible to reduce mobility issues
- Pair them with fire-element attacks like Sunburn or Toast to cook cleaved meat for bonus healing and stats
Druid
The Druid in Mewgenics lets you fight alongside nature. Unlock this class by beating The Crater and speaking with Butch.

Stat changes:
- +3 Charisma
- +1 Luck
- -2 Constitution
Each Druid comes with a permanent crow familiar that copies their stats, giving you built-in support. Protect them carefully and let their animal ally do the work.
Basic Action
- Sing: Heal and grant +1 Temporary Damage in a wide area
Psychic
Unlock the Psychic class in Mewgenics by completing The Moon. This class focuses on mind control and battlefield manipulation.

Stat changes:
- +1 Intelligence
- +1 Charisma
- +1 Speed
- -1 Constitution
- +5 starting mana
Psychics excel at repositioning units, buffing allies, and weakening enemies from afar. They are fragile early on, like Mages, but scale into absolute monsters once you unlock their stronger abilities.
Monk
Unlock the Monk in Mewgenics by completing The Lab. This class is a flexible combat specialist that adapts to any situation.

Stat changes:
- +2 Intelligence
- +2 Charisma
- -1 Strength
- -1 Constitution
Monks can switch between melee and ranged stances, letting you adjust on the fly. Even better, they can attack twice per turn, making them incredibly versatile. If you prefer adaptable fighters who can pressure enemies from any range, the Monk is a powerful choice.
Jester
Unlock the Jester in Mewgenics by completing The Rift. This class has no stat changes, making it completely neutral on paper.

What makes the Jester special is its flexibility. It has only four unique abilities, while the rest of its pool consists of active and passive skills from other classes. That means you can build it almost any way you want. The Jester is perfect if you enjoy experimenting and creating unpredictable combinations without being locked into a single archetype.
