Table of Contents
Temple
The Temple faction in Heroes of Might and Magic Olden Era hails from Karigor Isle and is ruled by the High Inquisition. Its followers have come to Jadame to spread their faith, either through inspiring words or the edge of a blade.
Temple is a human faction built around balance, protection, and buffs. Its army combines solid melee troops with effective ranged attackers, giving you enough flexibility to adapt to different battlefield situations.

What makes Temple special:
- Well-rounded human army
- Good mix of melee and ranged units
- Strong focus on buffs
- Extra benefits from unit empowerment
- Reliable protection for important troops
- Flexible ranged pressure
The faction’s playstyle rewards you for keeping your army together and applying buffs at the right moment. With the Righteousness Hero skill, your Hero gains attack, defense, spell power, and knowledge whenever a friendly creature dies or defeats an enemy. This makes Temple especially dangerous in longer battles.
Temple units:
- Swordsman
- Crossbowman
- Griffin
- Lightweaver
- Cavalry
- Inquisitor
- Angel
Temple is a great choice in Heroes of Might and Magic Olden Era if you want a faction that feels stable and adaptable. You can hold the line with melee units, support them with buffs, and apply pressure with ranged attacks. It’s not the flashiest faction, but if you prefer controlled battles and smart positioning, Temple gives you all the tools you need.
Necropolis
The Necropolis faction in Heroes of Might and Magic Olden Era is led by the Head of the Necromancers’ Guild and comes from the deathlands around Shadowspire. It’s a nation many respect, though not everyone fully trusts it. Shadowspire is home to necromancers, vampires, the night aristocracy, and ordinary people who are both protected and exploited by those in power.

What makes Necropolis special:
- Undead army with strong melee focus
- Powerful debuffs and curses
- Units that drain strength from enemies
- Vampirism to restore HP through damage
- Necromancy to raise fallen enemies after battle
- A dark fantasy faction built around attrition
Necropolis is all about wearing down enemies. Its army relies heavily on melee units, but it becomes dangerous through sustain, curses, and the ability to grow stronger after victory. With Necromancy, part of the defeated army can be revived and added to your forces.
Necropolis units:
- Skeleton
- Wight
- Undead pet
- Graverobber
- Lich
- Dread knight
- Vampire
Pick Necropolis if you like slow, brutal battles where your army refuses to stay dead. You weaken your enemies, drain their life force, and then turn the battlefield itself into your next source of reinforcements.
Schism
The Schism faction in Heroes of Might and Magic Olden Era is a breakaway group from Alvar, but this isn’t merely a political split. These cultists delved into the Depths of Water through ancient Vori rites and awakened something they don’t seem to fully control.
Their governing body is unknown, which suits the faction perfectly. Schism feels strange, dangerous, and unstable, built around eldritch monsters and powers from the Plane Between Planes.

What makes Schism special:
- Eldritch monster army
- Strong battlefield control
- Denies enemy abilities and magic
- Can deal unblockable damage
- Overwhelms enemies with growing hordes
- Gets stronger through consecutive victories
Schism is all about pressure. With Abyssal Communion, each consecutive victory increases the number of units you bring into the next battle. However, the effect resets every morning, so you need to maintain momentum.
Schism units:
- Ra’shoth
- Cultist
- Aga’shoth rider
- Grand shoth
- Concubus
- Arbitrator
- Abyssal envoy
Pick Schism in Heroes of Might and Magic Olden Era if you prefer aggressive armies that snowball quickly and leave the enemy helpless. You shut down their options, flood the battlefield with creatures, and win by turning every fight into another step toward a bigger, nastier horde.
Dungeon
The Dungeon faction in Heroes of Might and Magic Olden Era is led by the Triumvirate of Alvar, the main political power in Jadame. Once hidden underground, Alvar now pulls many strings from the shadows and unites the continent’s native races against the threat facing the continent.
Dungeon is built around dark elves, beasts, dragons, and versatility. This faction doesn’t rely on a single battle plan. Instead, every unit has two attack types, giving you more ways to pressure enemies and respond to tricky situations.

What makes Dungeon special:
- Dark elves and underground creatures
- Strong focus on flexibility
- Each unit has two attack types
- Varied unit abilities
- More attack opportunities in battle
- Hero stances for different playstyles
With Triumvirate’s Strength, your Hero can switch among three active stances. Depending on the situation, you can boost attack, defense, or spellpower, making the Dungeon feel highly adaptable from fight to fight.
Dungeon units:
- Troglodyte
- Infiltrator
- Onyx dancer
- Minotaur
- Medusa
- Hydra
- Cave dragon
Pick Dungeon if you prefer factions with options. You can adapt your approach in battle, use varied attack types, and keep enemies guessing. It’s a great choice if you enjoy tactical freedom and want an army capable of handling a wide range of threats.
Grove
The Grove faction in Heroes of Might and Magic Olden Era embodies the wild forces of the Murmurwoods. This region is connected by the Mycelium, a mystical root network that links trees, mushrooms, grass, and other living creatures. Everything in Murmurwoods is connected through it. This bond fills the land with primal energy and allows elemental spirits to appear.

What makes Grove special:
- Nature and fey-inspired army
- Rangers and druids
- Many strong attacks
- Several ranged options
- Elemental spirit influence
- Free Focus Charge at the start of battle
Grove is a great faction in Heroes of Might and Magic Olden Era if you like controlling the fight from a distance while still having magical nature power on your side. Its Heroes can use Murmuring to gain a free Focus Charge at the start of a battle, giving you an early advantage before the enemy can settle in.
Grove units:
- Faun
- Hoplet
- Vine Iriyad
- Naiat
- Herbomancer
- Qilin
- Phoenix
Hive
The Hive faction in Heroes of Might and Magic Olden Era is a swarm of demonic insectoids from the Ironsand Desert. They emerged from dormant volcanoes without warning, spreading death and corruption across Jadame.
The mysterious Dragonfly King controls the swarm. Their arrival posed such a threat that the divided nations of Jadame had to stand together against them.

What makes Hive special:
- Fast and aggressive insect army
- Demonic swarm theme
- Strong pressure from early attacks
- Eggs can be dropped on the battlefield
- Fire Larvae hatch in the next round
- Great for overwhelming enemies quickly
With Summon Swarm, Hive can place eggs during combat. These eggs hatch in the next round, producing Fire Larvae whose HP is a percentage of the Hive Spawn’s total HP.
Hive units:
- Parasite
- Locust
- Hornet
- Scorpion
- Reaver
- Waurms
- Hive queen
Pick Hive if you like aggressive factions that never give the enemy room to breathe. You rush in, flood the battlefield with new threats, and turn every fight into a spreading infestation.
