Subnautica 2 Silver Guide: Locations & Farming Spots

In Subnautica 2, Silver is one of those resources you need sooner than you expect. From oxygen upgrades to useful ingots, it quickly becomes part of your early progression. In this Subnautica 2 Silver Guide, we show you how to find Silver faster and use it effectively.

What You Need First

Before you start farming Silver in Subnautica 2, it helps to know that the game has two types of Silver sources. Regular Silver ore can be picked up directly, while larger Silver Outcrops require a special tool before you can harvest them properly.

Several pointed, crystal-like formations hang from a rocky cave ceiling.

For early upgrades, especially your oxygen tank, you should prioritize the smaller Silver deposits first. The larger veins are useful later, but they’re not what you should rely on at the start.

Here’s what matters most:

  • Regular Silver ore can be collected by hand
  • Medium Silver chunks can also be broken without special tools
  • Large Silver veins require the Sonic Resonator
  • Silver ingots are crafted in the Processor
  • Three Silver pieces turn into one Silver ingot
  • Processing one Silver ingot takes one minute

The Sonic Resonator is unlocked by scanning fragments, but you probably won’t have it right away. Since you need Silver fairly early, it’s better to build a Scanner Station as soon as your first base is running.

To search for Silver with the Scanner Station:

  1. Build a basic base with power.
  2. Place a Scanner Station inside.
  3. Interact with it and select Silver from the resource list.
  4. Check the 3D map for nearby Silver markers.
  5. Pick one marker and swim toward it.
  6. Collect the Silver once you reach the deposit.

The Scanner Station searches within a 300-meter radius, which is usually enough to find a few nearby Silver nodes. If Silver does not appear on the list, your base is probably in a poor spot for it. In that case, swim a few hundred meters in another direction and try again with a second small base setup. Silver is not extremely rare, so once you have the right scan area, finding it becomes much less annoying.

You can also use Silver for germanium ingots in Subnautica 2. These require two pieces of Silver and take two minutes to process. Still, early on, your main priority should be Silver ingots for key upgrades.

Silver Locations and Best Farming Spots

Silver can be easy to miss in Subnautica 2 because its nodes are much smaller than those of most other metals. They barely stick out of the walls, so don’t rush through caves. Slow down, scan the walls and ceilings, and bring enough oxygen before diving into deeper tunnel systems.

One of the first good farming spots is north of the Lifepod, on the way to the Old Habitat. To reach it:

  1. Start at the Lifepod.
  2. Swim directly north past the first Coral Domes.
  3. Look for a small cave about 200 meters away.
  4. The entrance sits under an overhang with purple Jelly Lei above it.
  5. Swim down and check the walls for Silver.

This cave is surprisingly rich for such an early site, but predators patrol nearby. Bring Distraction Flares so you can escape without turning the trip into a panicked swim.

Another strong Silver spot in Subnautica 2 is right next to the Old Habitat. You’ll visit this location during the story, but you can also go there earlier if you feel ready.

  • Go to the right side of the Old Habitat
  • Enter the large cave opening
  • Follow the glowing green plants deeper inside
  • Search the walls and ceiling near the bright blue bulbs
  • Move slowly, since Silver blends into the cave surface

A very reliable early farming route is about 130 meters north of the Lifepod and about 70 meters west of Anita’s Blackbox. Look for a large coral dome with glowing plants around its roots, then enter the cave system beneath it. At the bottom, turn left and look for small breakable Silver nodes. These don’t require the Sonic Resonator. Hit each node several times, and you can usually collect two to three Silver pieces.

This spot is especially useful because:

  • There’s a small pocket of breathable air nearby
  • More Silver can be found through the tunnel to the north-northwest
  • Extra pieces are often hidden on the ceiling
  • A nearby hatch lets you refill oxygen and find recordings

For open-world exploration in Subnautica 2, the Necrolei Fields are also worth checking. This area lies roughly 370 meters north-northwest of the Lifepod, above the Wu “Wu” Lianghai marker. You can recognize it by its bright pink and blue plant life.

There, Silver can appear:

  • On the ground near the Necrolei
  • Along cliff walls
  • Around plant clusters
  • In small nodes that are easy to swim past

Once you have the Sonic Resonator, you can start farming Silver Outcrops. A good spot is about 200 meters southeast of the Lifepod, near the tall stalagmites that reach toward the surface. Chap’s Blackbox Signal is nearby, so you will naturally head there eventually.

Use your first Silver wisely. Before processing everything, keep at least three raw Silver pieces to craft an air tank and a Wakemaker. More oxygen and better movement make every farming route safer, faster, and much less stressful.

Find Silver Faster with PLITCH!

With our Subnautica 2 Silver Guide, you already know how to locate ore and turn it into ingots. If you want to make the whole process smoother, the Subnautica 2 cheats from PLITCH can help you spend less time searching and more time exploring.

The most useful codes for Silver farming are Fast Scanner, Easy Craft & Build, Fast Processing Materials, and Unlimited Oxygen. Fast Scanner helps you track nearby Silver more quickly, while Unlimited Oxygen lets you dive deeper and stay out longer without constantly rushing back to the surface. Once you have enough ore, Fast Processing Materials speeds up ingot production, and Easy Craft & Build makes setting up your base and crafting stations much easier.

You can also use Unlimited Power to keep your Scanner Station running, or teleport codes to save and return to good farming spots faster.
