Gaming Conventions Highlights
Gaming conventions are full of memorable experiences, with something for every type of fan. Here’s a look at some of the top highlights you can look forward to:
Networking Opportunities
Gaming conventions are a hub for connecting with fellow gamers, industry professionals, streamers/content creators, and developers. From casual conversations to structured meet-and-greets, you can build valuable relationships that can lead to collaborations, career opportunities, or new friendships. Panels and workshops often provide direct access to insights from gaming veterans.
Exclusive Previews and Demos
These events are a prime spot to experience new games, technologies, and gear before they’re released to the public. From immersive VR setups to sneak peeks at blockbuster titles, it’s exciting to be among the first to play. Developers are often on hand to gather real-time feedback from attendees.
Cosplay
Gaming conventions are great places to see amazing cosplay. Fans transform into their favorite characters, often with breathtaking attention to detail. Many conventions host cosplay contests where participants compete for recognition and prizes, making them a highlight for participants and spectators alike.

Getting Ready For Your First Event
If you’ve never been to a gaming event, it can be pretty exciting but also a little overwhelming. The good news is that with some preparation, you can make sure you have everything you need to feel comfortable. We’ve put together a guide to help you pack, travel, and find accommodations so you can focus on enjoying the event.
Essential Packing List
- Ticket/Badge: Double-check you have your ticket or badge. You won’t get far without it.
- Charger/power bank: Your phone is your lifeline for schedules, maps, and photos. Keep it charged with a power bank.
- Backpack: A backpack is perfect for carrying all your essentials and any merch you pick up.
- Refillable water bottle: Stay hydrated. Convention centers can get hot and crowded, so drink plenty of water.
- ID & Wallet/Cash: Always carry your ID, wallet, and some cash. Some vendors may not accept cards, and you don’t want to miss out on a sweet deal.

- Get a map: Familiarize yourself with the layout of the convention center. If available, download the convention app.
- Have a backup plan: If your first choice is full, consider alternative events that interest you. You could try a new game, grab a bite to eat, or play a board game.
- Parking/Travel: Research your parking options, traffic conditions, and public transportation routes. Knowing how to get to and from the convention can save you a lot of stress.
- Trade places with friends: If you’re with friends, take turns waiting in line.
- Budget: Set a budget for merchandise and food and stick to it.

Networking and Community
Gaming events are a great way to connect with other gamers, industry professionals, and creators. Whether you’re looking to meet new people, expand your professional network, or share experiences, these gatherings are perfect for building lasting relationships within the gaming community. Even if you’re a little shy or don’t know where to start, there are plenty of ways to feel comfortable and make meaningful connections.
Networking
Networking at gaming events is all about finding people with similar interests and experiences. Here are some tips for making connections:
- Match the energy and pitch of the person you are talking to.
- It almost doesn’t matter what you say as long as people agree. Avoid “heavy” topics!
- Don’t just say your name or job, but say a few sentences about it.
- Listen more than talk! It’s tempting to keep talking when you’re excited, but be mindful of others’ time. Engage in a two-way conversation to build better connections.
- Get a feel for the type of person you’re talking to.
- Observe your counterpart’s non-verbal communication and adapt your own!
- If you feel the conversation is over, move on or take a break and return later. Give others a chance to engage in conversation.

Tips for Introverts
As an introverted gamer, the idea of attending a convention can feel both exciting and daunting. Packed halls and a constant buzz of energy – it’s a lot to take in! But conventions are incredible spaces for connecting with like-minded people, discovering new games, and learning from industry experts. Here are some tips to make the event more enjoyable:
- Headset or earplugs: If you’re sensitive to noise, consider bringing noise-canceling headphones or earplugs. They can help you focus in noisy areas or give you a break from the constant buzz of the crowd.
- Attend and eat during off-peak hours: The exhibit halls are less crowded, and everything is quieter. This allows you to explore booths, try out games, and interact with exhibitors without feeling overwhelmed.
- Regular breaks and energy management: Prioritize taking breaks to recharge in quiet areas or outside the main convention space.
- Find chill zones: Some conventions have designated areas where you can take a break among other gamers who are all looking for some peace and quiet.

PLITCH at Gaming Events
PLITCH has become a notable presence at gaming events, bringing unique experiences and insights to the community. Here’s a closer look at some of the highlights from the Polaris Convention in Hamburg, Germany.
PLITCH was one of the main sponsors for the second time, so our designs were featured on the Main Stage. We also had a booth where people could try our software and get exclusive goodies, skins, and more. On the evening of the first day of the convention, we hosted an exclusive PLITCH dinner with 100 special guests, including content creators, industry professionals, and more.
FAQ
This depends on the event, as some conventions sell out in advance. Check the website for ticket availability and pricing, and if possible, purchase early to secure your spot and avoid higher prices at the door.
Gaming events are fantastic places to connect with like-minded fans. Here are a few tips:
Join group activities and panels: Events often have games, challenges, or panels that make it easy to meet people.
Use social media: Look for event hashtags and official groups to connect with other attendees, or even set up pre-meetups.
Visit exhibitor booths: Booths are a great place to chat with developers and fans, not just learn about products.
Cosplay: Whether you cosplay or just love it, it’s an easy way to bond with other fans.
Most conventions post schedules on their websites or apps ahead of time. Download or print the schedule to plan your day and prioritize the panels, demos, and meetings you don’t want to miss. Some apps even offer real-time updates and notifications of changes.
Gaming events attract a wide range of attendees, including:
Gamers and Fans: People who love gaming and want to stay on top of the latest trends.
Influencers and content creators: Many attend to connect with fans, create new content, and network.
Developers and publishers: They showcase new projects, gather feedback, and answer questions from the community.
Media and press: Journalists and bloggers cover the event live, capturing the latest news and impressions.
Aside from the ticket price, there are a few additional expenses to consider:
Transportation and accomodation: Travel and lodging can add up, especially for multi-day events.
Food and beverages: On-site food prices are often higher, so bringing some snacks can be budget-friendly.
Merchandise and extras: Plan a budget if you’re interested in exclusive event merchandise.
Optional upgrades: Some events offer VIP passes or access to exclusive areas, which may cost extra.
The cost will vary depending on the event and location, so it is a good idea to plan ahead.
Many gaming events are open to all ages, but certain areas or games may have age restrictions. It’s common to find 18+ areas or adult content. It’s best to check the event’s website for age guidelines, especially if you’re attending with younger guests.
Generally yes, but be respectful of cosplayers and other attendees by asking permission before taking photos. Some areas may restrict photography, so check for signs or event guidelines.
Most conventions have security checks at entry points, and large bags may be searched. Follow all posted safety guidelines. Stay hydrated, take breaks, and notify staff if you feel uncomfortable or see something that concerns you.
Most major gaming events have accessibility options that focus on making the event inclusive. Many venues offer wheelchair access, accessible restrooms, and quiet areas. However, since accessibility varies from event to event, it’s a good idea to check the event’s website or contact the organizers about your specific needs.
