Want to harness the power of blazing suns? In our No Man’s Sky Solanium guide, we cover where to find this potent chemical, how to grow it on your own base, and which recipes it unlocks. From farming Solar Vines to refining tips, here’s everything you need to know.

When it comes to farming resources in the galaxy, Solanium is one of the top contenders. It is a potent chemical harvested from the bark of Solar Vine plants, and it only grows in hot environments. You won’t find it everywhere, but once you know where to look, Solanium provides a reliable supply for crafting, refining, and even cooking.

Solanium in No Man’s Sky

A landscape featuring large, red-orange rock formations surrounded by glowing yellow patterns. Smaller blue structures are visible in the background.

Solanium is classified as a harvested agricultural substance. It’s a potent chemical that can’t be synthesized in a lab, which makes it especially valuable. In the wild, it only grows on scorched and hot planets, but with the right setup, you can farm it in any biome.

No Man’s Sky Solanium: What Is It Used For?

Solanium has a wide range of uses across the game:

  • Crafting:
    • Heat Capacitor (with Frost Crystal)
    • Solar Vine (with Phosphorus)
  • Cooking:
    • Creature Pellets (for taming)
    • Floral Wafer
    • Solartillo
  • Fishing Bait: Gives a 6% boost to catch rarity and a small increase to catch size.

Where to Find Solanium

Finding Solanium can take some patience, but there are several reliable methods:

  • Wild Solar Vines: Visit a scorched biome and scan for tall brown pillars covered in glowing vines. These plants grow in clusters. To harvest them, you’ll need the Haz-Mat Gauntlet, which you can craft after purchasing the blueprint from the Space Anomaly.
  • Carbon plants and trees: Some carbon-based flora will provide small amounts of Solanium as a secondary resource. Scan them with your Analysis Visor to confirm before harvesting.
  • Analysis Visor scanning: Always scan the nearby flora on hot planets. Solanium plants are uncommon, but scanning speeds up the process.

If you see planet descriptions like Arid, Boiling, Incandescent, or Scorched, you’re likely to find Solar Vines there.

Farming Solanium

One of the best ways to ensure a steady supply is to farm Solar Vines at your base. To do this, you’ll need:

  • A Farmer NPC (hire one from a Gek system Space Station after completing early base missions).
  • A Bio-Dome or Hydroponics Tray to grow Solar Vines.
  • 50 Solanium + 50 Phosphorus to plant each vine.

Each plant takes about 16 hours to grow and yields approximately 50–78 Solanium. If you need a large amount, build multiple farms for a higher yield.

Refining Solanium

Solanium can also be crafted in a Portable Refiner or Large Refiner using different resources. Here are some helpful recipes:

  • Phosphorus + Sulphurine → Solanium
  • 2 Phosphorus + 1 Oxygen → Solanium
  • Sulphurine + Di-Hydrogen → Solanium
  • Phosphorus + Solanium → 2 Solanium

The Large Refiner is the most efficient setup if you want to mass-produce.
